The Turkana are nomadic people living in the remote desert areas of northwest Kenya. It's a harsh existence, and survival is their main objective. As a result they have become proud and self sufficient, and resist lures of change. They are skilled craftsmen and make most of the household items they use with limited tools and materials - these bowls are skillfully carved from a single piece of wood and are beautiful artisan objects in their own right, which improve with age.
